Today Vader and I flushed out a turkey and a snake at the dog park.  Vader saw the turkey, but not the snake.  I’m still curious how he’s going to react to seeing a snake.  Then, a little later, when Vader came out of the brush I was looking him over for ticks, and I found a tiny little baby praying mantis.  It was really cute.

Today I woke up, took a shower and ate breakfast, ordered my new prop case, went to the dog park, had lunch, worked on the Model A Ford, had dinner, and made cookies. That’s almost the full spectrum of my life, and it was all packed into one day. I didn’t realize until I wrote this just now that the different activities were delineated by meals. If I weren’t so tired I would have to have another meal and start on a new chapter in life. Maybe as a Sumo wrestler….

The goal with the Model A today was to take off the radiator so I can take it in to a professional to have it cleaned. Last time I drove the car the radiator boiled over, and when I took off one of the water pipes it was LOADED with nasty gunk, so the radiator has to be filthy too. Taking the radiator off isn’t an insurmountable task but there are a bunch of things you have to do before you even get to the radiator. First you take off a couple of water pipes, then unhook the wires for the headlights and the horn (which run through the radiator housing), take off the hood, and THEN you can remove the radiator. Unfortunately I only got as far as the hood. I got everything unscrewed and I realized that actually lifting the hood off (and not messing it up) was either a two-person job, or I didn’t know how to do it by myself. Either way, I needed help. Since my neighbor Todd wasn’t home, the radiator will just have to wait. What’s one more day after being in storage for 15 years?

In the morning I perform at the Carmel Farmer’s Market, and then at the Rocky Ripple festival… if it doesn’t rain. I’m anticipating a rain-out, but we’ll see.

Yesterday, Vader (my dog) and I left Indianapolis around noon Eastern time. We stopped briefly at the library to get what turned out to be a boring audiobook. I’m actually still in the middle of listening to Dune by Frank Herbert (and it’s AWESOME!) but it’s on cassette and I wanted to take the good car this time, and it only has a CD player. The plan was to drive up to Milwaukee, stop at Lynn’s house (my mother-in-law), drop off Vader and then head off to the gig at the Milwaukee Zoo. Unfortunately, leaving later than we should have (my fault, not Vader’s), coupled with unusually bad traffic in Chicago (we lost an hour), meant that we had to drive straight to the Zoo, and Vader had to wait in the car for me while I did the gig. For lunch I had packed a sandwich, some blueberries (that I got on Saturday when I performed at one of the Indianapolis Farmer’s Markets), some carrots and two cookies. Good thing too, since there was not time to stop for dinner before the gig.

Today was a good day for sure. It started with going to the dog park with Vader and Lenore. We met some of our favorite dog park friends there, and had a nice time. Especially Vader, who spent most of the time thinking about how much he wanted to eat the four very cute baby squirrels up in one of the trees.
Then came the big stuff: the yo-yo meet. Yo-yo players from all over the state converged on the Glendale Mall for Food Court delights and yo-yoing. We stayed there until getting kicked out, and then adjourned to Broad Ripple Park. There are not a whole lot of things more fun than spending the afternoon swapping yo-yo and top tricks, throwing boomerangs, hanging out, and eating birthday cake. Yo-yos and tops are always fun of course, but I had an especially good time today throwing boomerangs. I made a new friend today, who not only let me throw his tri-blade and his “Tailess Cat-a-rang” (a boomerang in the shape of a cat that had an unfortunate accident) but he also let me keep them. YAY!!! More boomerangs! I had actually been wanting a right-handed tri-blade and a boomerang in the shape of something anyway, so this was perfect. I am going to have to get out and do some more boomeranging very soon.
In return for fun, I did have to get a little sunburned, but it was worth it.
